“My mom has been running her architecture business since before I was born. Today I’m twenty four years old, and even though I didn’t realise it until very recently, all my life, Mom’s been teaching me what it means to be a woman; hard-working, passionate, and can-do. We can do whatever we want when we set our minds to it.
From a young age I was determined to have a profession I loved. (Mom taught me this too) But first I had to discover a passion. While studying English & Psychology for four wonderful years at the University of Virginia, I found it. Writing my final thesis, a literary analysis exploring human connection and fulfillment, an app called Insight Timer was recommended to me. I began studying Buddhism and MBSR (mindfulness-based stress reduction). I developed a daily meditation practice too. Slowly, I felt my world shifting. I started to understand myself and the world around me in a way that was different from before.
I remember taking the bus home from university one day. It was cold and wet outside. I went to grab my phone, like always, to distract myself but paused for some reason. I looked around at the other students – all of us sharing space together. I decided to leave my phone in my backpack and practice a loving-kindness meditation instead, directing wishes of ease, joy and wellbeing to the people around me. Over time I started leading guided meditations for my friends, even at parties 🙂 It was clear this was my passion! I was now determined to find a job where I could help share my passion with others; the power of presence.
Fast forward a few years, and here I am at Insight Timer; the very meditation app I first opened when starting my meditation journey. As Insight Timer’s Enterprise Customer Success Manager, I get to build relationships with people from all over the world, and across diverse industries, who are seeking to open the door of meditation for their teams. It still feels like a dream working for a company which is actually, at its core, a community of 19 million meditators.”
